DAY 17 : HISTORY OF GENDER & MENTAL HEALTH

Mental health has been weaponized against women to create stigma that "others" women as less capable than men. This bias is baked into our mental health systems and continue to result in misdiagnoses that negatively impact women's health outcomes. These resources explore how mental health is closely tied to instances of gender-based violence. However, the same trauma and mental health issues caused by violence, are then used to discredit and invalidate accusations made by women about the violence they have experienced.
